Philosophy
Our horse and animal programs are exceptional because our approach to working with the animals is very different. They are not only well cared for, but also well understood. Learning about the essence of the animal itself and how it perceives and interacts with the world around it, is an important part of animal training, horseback riding, dogsledding or any other animal/person interrelationship. Learning how to read animals is an art form, and can make us feel more connected to Nature and to the world around us. To truly connect with an animal, we try to leave our egos behind, and relate to the animal on their own terms in a language they can understand. Learning to get out of our own heads and into the animal's can be a liberating experience, and offers an opportunity to go beyond the confines of our human-centric universe.
Spending lots of time outdoors in Nature is not something that many of us do any more...our schedules are too hectic, our kids spend too much time on the computer, watching TV, texting, facebooking, twittering away.
“Nature Deficit Disorder”, as described by Richard Louv in Last Child in the Woods, has become widespread within our recent cultures. It’s been documented that “Being close to nature may foster people's ability to concentrate, improves the behavior of children with attention disorders, and boosts science test scores”. For years we have been developing meaningful, fun and educational programs and experiences that directly connect people with nature.
Our Lodge is a kind of sanctuary, removed from the hustle and bustle of modern life; timehas more or less stood still here. We utilize alternative energy sources; grow organic fruits and vegetables, and offer healthy hearty meals. For over twenty years here on the mountainside we’ve nurtured and developed an environment that has attracted hundreds of song birds and an amazing colony of hummingbirds which will dazzle your perception of reality. The stars are unbelievably bright with no city lights to fade the night sky. There are no sounds of traffic, only the wind and the song birds singing.
Come reconnect with the planet earth...
