Kids “Horse and Husky” Camp - Ages: 9-17, Day and Overnight Programs
OVERVEIW At our camp, children learn horsemanship and how to ride in a fun and safe environment; and also have the opportunity to learn about sled dogs and other animals that call the Telemark Inn Wilderness Lodge home. They will learn how to handle, train and care for our friendly Sled dogs and sled dog puppies ...this will include; harnessing, lead dog training, cart training, canine swim conditioning, artistically painting doghouses (functional dog yard art!) and socializing our new puppies. Llama care, training and trekking will also be a part of the program along with llama obstacle coursing, and our one of a kind llama soccer tournament. Nature hikes, trips to the local swimming hole, and night time camp fires at the Tipi are all a part of the experience.
Experienced instructors teach horseback riding and handling skills, as well as a basic understanding of horse care, safety around the horses and the responsibility involved in owning a horse. The group will be split into beginners and more experienced riders. The daily schedule varies depending upon the ability levels of the group. They will learn about grooming, tacking up, horse care, tack cleaning, and will ride at least once per day. Beginner riders will start out on a lead line and learn how to ride independently in the ring. More experienced riders will work on trotting and cantering, basic dressage and trail riding.
Our horse program teaches a variety of disciplines including: dressage, western style games (barrels, pole bending, ring-toss), English equitation, bareback riding, carriage driving and more.. This program is for children who love animals and the outdoors.
